Land Acknowledgement

Halifax Lancers’ programming takes place in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people, in the district of Kjipuktuk (Chee-book-took) — “The Great Harbour.” The territory is covered by the Treaty of Peace and Friendship, which Mi’kmaq, Maliseet, and Passamaquoddy People first signed with the British crown in 1725.

We are deeply grateful to live and work with horses— Te’sipowk (Dee-si-bowk) – on this land — powerful and gentle teachers who remind us of the Mi’kmaw values of respect, balance, and connection to all living things.

Reconciliation is ongoing, and Halifax Lancers is committed to making this acknowledgment meaningful through learning and collaboration with Mi’kmaw partners and community members. We invite our community to learn about Mi’kma’ki, honour the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, and walk together in a spirit of respect and reconciliation.

We are all Treaty people. Learn more about Treaty Education in Nova Scotia: https://novascotia.ca/treaty-education/

We also respectfully acknowledge the rich history and legacies of Black people/African Nova Scotian communities who have contributed to this territory for over 400 years.
